The second annual Shell Fueling Education Fun Run on October 2, 2016 at Washington Park raised more than $52,000 for the Anacortes Schools Foundation.
The one-half mile kids run and 5k adults race were organized and staged by volunteer employees of the Shell Puget Sound Refinery with help from Foundation board members. More than 250 kids and adults participated.
Gifts from Anacortes businesses and restaurants, as well as Shell, were awarded to winners and handed out in a raffle following the run. In addition, Children’s Museum of Skagit County brought craft games for kids; Moka Joe Coffee provided free coffee and hot cocoa; and Lopez Island Creamery gave away ice cream.
Shell refinery manager Shirley Yap said, “You have made Shell very proud in the community and in return, the younger generation in our community can really benefit from this.”
“It’s all about kids,” said Foundation President Art Shotwell. “The funds raised at this event support programs that will benefit a wide range of students, including Pre-School scholarships for kids, STEM enrichment programs in our Middle School and scholarships for graduating seniors.”
The Anacortes Schools Foundation will hold its annual Celebrate the Season dinner and auction on December 2 at the Port of Anacortes Event Center at the foot of Commercial Ave.
The Anacortes Schools Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to foster excellence in education by supporting our local schools. ASF governed by a 21-member volunteer board that represents a cross-section of the community.
